10 Amazing Wild Animals to See in Uganda

Wild animals are those which spend most of their time in wild. Some of the natural habitats of wild animals in Uganda include Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls National park, Kidepo Valley National park, Kibale National Park, semliki National Park, Lake Mburo National park, Mountain Elgon National Park, Mountain Rwenzori National park, Bwindi Impenetrable National park, Mgahinga National Park among others.

Below are some of the most amazing animals in Uganda:

Mountain Gorillas – they are found in Bwindi Impenetrable national park and Mgahinga National Park situated in far south western Uganda. Mountain Gorillas offer much revenue to the government since Gorilla trekking permit cost up to US$ 600 per trek. Gorillas stay in groups/ families and they feed on wild fruits, stems, leaves and pods among others.

Chimpanzees – Uganda hosts amazing chimps in Kibale National park, Budongo Forest which is part of Murchison Falls National park, Toro – Semliki Game reserve and Kyambura Gorge situated in Queen Elizabeth national park.  Chimpanzee trekking is the second thought after Gorilla trekking, the activity which earns the country a lot of foreign exchange. Chimpanzee trekking permit cost up to US$ 150.

Tree climbing lions – Ishasha sector is known to be a home of the tree climbing lions. In Uganda, the tree climbing lions are only found in Ishasha plain which connect Queen Elizabeth National park and Bwindi Impenetrable National park. The lions climb tree for leisure, it’s a hunting tactic, to dodge insect bites and so on.

There are lions which don’t climb trees. They also co-exist with other animals in the wild. They are also aggressive and feed on fresh.

African Elephants – they are found in Kidepo valley National Park, Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National park and so on. They are huge and powerful animals and please do not stand close to Elephants because they are harmful and can turn the vehicle upside down. The Elephants feed on grass and do better in savanna grass land.

Rhinos – They are single horned huge wild animals. They are only found at Zziwa Rhino sanctuary, where they are highly guarded due to the fact that their horns are very expensive and on very high demand on International market.  There is less than twenty white Rhinos found in Uganda thus we need to preserve them for the future generation.

Golden Monkeys– they are officially trekked in Mgahinga National park which is situated in far south western Uganda. Golden Monkeys live better in forested areas since they spend most of their time on trees. Golden monkey trekking cost US$ 50 per person (Foreign none resident cost) – visit Uganda, miss other things but do not miss golden monkey trekking.

Giraffes – they have the longest necks in the wild. Giraffes feed on vegetation and are capable of feeding from the canopies of the trees. They have long legs but runs slowly.

Buffaloes – they are common in Uganda. They are found in savanna parks of Uganda including Kidepo valley national park, Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth national park and Semliki National Park.  Buffaloes move in groups for security reasons and the largest groups are found in Kidepo Valley National park.

Leopards – They are shy but tough wild animals. They are night moving animals (Nocturnal animals) and rarely seen during day. They follow in the cat family and are capable of hunting at night.
